AtomJump Security Briefing

AtomJump Messaging can be used in a variety of different ways, and therefore the security levels run across the entire spectrum. At it's highest level, i.e. 'platinum-level security', it will be more secure than public end-to-end-encrypted apps. At it's lowest level, the forum can be open to the public, and therefore there may be no security; the forum may be protected by a simple password, or there may be no encryption.

Below, we've listed the different configurations of AtomJump, and how they compare with other products on the market:
Most To Least Security Notes
AtomJump Messaging - Private Network
(Platinum Level)
AtomJump software is downloaded onto your private network. The strength of the security on this network (and it's server hardware) determines how secure your forums will be. If you wish to be e.g. national-level security, in mission-critical situations where lives are at risk, then we recommend this approach.  AtomJump software does not communicate with the outside world*, and the source code is fully open source for you to confirm this.
E2EE public apps (Gold Level) Note: AtomJump is not end-to-end encrypted. End-to-end encrypted apps send data over the public network. While encryption itself may be strong, users can be accidentally added to a group from anywhere in the world, for example, or a device may be tampered with, and access to a forum granted. Furthermore, any popup notification messages will be sent via Apple or Google, which will be outside your private network, by definition.  Logs of messages on this type of forum are difficult to keep track of, and you may not meet an organisation's accountability requirements by using this kind of app.
Ajmp.co temporary encrypted forums (https, random password) These are hosted on AtomJump's servers, and a random 9-letter code is generated to specify the forum. The forums will be deleted after two days. These can be shared with other users by a phone-call or a link.  A phone-call is more secure, but it is still possible that e.g. a Government can tap your phones, and gain access to the forum.  An email with this link can be intercepted more easily, unless it has been encrypted.
AtomJump.com encrypted private forums (https, password protection) The basic 'private'' rooms on AtomJump.com. Use these when security is considered relatively unimportant. The single entry password will be emailed between users, and could easily be intercepted.  AtomJump themselves will also 'spot-check' the contents of these forums (with 1 week's prior notice).
AtomJump encrypted public forums (https, optional password protection) The encryption only applies between the client and the server, which will protect any username/passwords during transfer, but messages are stored unencrypted on the server. User's passwords are encrypted on the server.
AtomJump unencrypted public forums (http, optional password protection) These have no encryption, and messages could be intercepted between clients and server. Only use this option when you have little or no need for privacy.
* A note about Platinum-level security:  While AtomJump can be used without any form of AtomJump account, email addresses are often used to confirm accounts.  Top-level security might therefore entail using local email servers for receiving emails, and local SMTP servers for sending emails.
